How it works

  1. Tell us what you need. County, property type, and what you suspect or need surveyed or removed.
  2. We show you the specialists for your area. On the spot, with an attempted email copy: asbestos firms listed as covering your county for the selected job type.
  3. You contact them directly. Ring or email two or three to compare quotes. Specialist supply is limited and firms are often booked up, so contacting more than one is worth it.
  4. You decide. Deal with whichever firm suits; asbestos.ie takes no part in the quote or the work.

Is there a register of asbestos contractors in Ireland?

Neither the HSA nor Citizens Information refers to any licence or public register for asbestos removal firms in Ireland. What the rules do require:

  • A specialist contractor. Citizens Information says removal must be done by a specialist contractor, and the HSA says by a competent person, with training that fits the work.
  • An HSA permit number for your job. Notifiable work needs a unique permit number, issued before work starts. Ask for it: HSA guidance says it should be available on site.
  • A waste collection permit. Whoever takes the asbestos away needs one. You can check a collector on the National Waste Collection Permit Office's public permit search.
  • Trade body membership, if they have it. ARCA lists member firms in the Republic. Membership is voluntary.

Northern Ireland works differently: HSENI licenses contractors for work on asbestos insulation and coatings, and publishes the list.

So when a firm says it's "licensed" or "registered", ask what it means: the HSA permit number for your job, its waste collector's permit, or a trade body.

Known Irish contractors

The following firms are publicly listed as ARCA members or HSENI-licensed asbestos contractors operating on the island of Ireland (verified via the ARCA and HSENI directories, July 2026). This is not a complete contractor list, and directory inclusion is not an endorsement by asbestos.ie or the HSA.

Republic of Ireland (ARCA members)

  • Asbestaway (Ireland) Ltd: ARCA member, based in Cork.
  • Gravity Construction Ltd: ARCA member, based in Wexford.
  • Harrington Asbestos Removal Ltd: ARCA member, based in Dublin.
  • Insulation & Environmental Services Ltd: ARCA member, based in Dublin.
  • John Tinnelly & Sons Ltd: ARCA member, with a Dublin address in the Republic directory.

That concentration is why Dublin has the shortest lead times in the country, and why quotes further from the capital carry a travel premium. Our removal guide breaks the position down county by county.

Northern Ireland (HSENI-licensed, selected)

  • MCE Contract Services Ltd
  • John Tinnelly & Sons Ltd
  • AEL Ltd
  • Asbestos Waste Disposal Ltd
  • David Jameson Roofing / ARC
  • McKelvey Asbestos Removal
  • Precision Group
  • Taylor Specialist Services

Frequently asked questions

How does it work?

You tell us your county and what you need. We show you asbestos specialists listed as covering your area on the page and try to email you the same list. You contact them directly to compare quotes. We are not affiliated with the firms and take no part in the quote or the work. There is no cost to you.

I'm a contractor. How do I get listed?

If your firm carries out asbestos work in Ireland and wants to be considered for the directory, get in touch. We will ask for public contact details, coverage, services, insurance and competence evidence, plus relevant job-specific HSA permits where applicable.

How quickly will I hear back?

It depends on contractor availability. There is a small number of asbestos specialists in Ireland and they are often booked up. asbestos.ie does not promise that a listed firm will reply or be available, so contact more than one and decide who suits your job.

Is there a register of asbestos contractors in Ireland?

Neither the HSA nor Citizens Information refers to any licence or public register for asbestos removal firms in Ireland. The rules require a specialist, competent contractor, a unique HSA permit number for each notifiable job, and a waste collector with a Waste Collection Permit, which you can check on the National Waste Collection Permit Office's public permit search. ARCA membership is voluntary. Northern Ireland is different: HSENI licenses contractors for work on asbestos insulation and coatings. See what to check instead.

Why are so few Republic contractors listed as ARCA members?

ARCA membership is voluntary in the Republic of Ireland. It is a trade-association membership. It does not count as an Irish licence or HSA approval. Other Irish firms may lawfully do asbestos work where they meet the applicable competence, insurance, notification, job-specific permit and waste requirements.

Can a Northern Ireland contractor do the work in the Republic?

Yes, provided they comply with the regulations of the work site. For notifiable work in the Republic, a contractor based in Northern Ireland must obtain the job-specific HSA permit number before starting, follow the Republic's asbestos regulations, and use a permitted waste collector for disposal. Cross-border movement of asbestos waste requires Transfrontier Shipment paperwork. Where Republic supply is constrained, particularly in border counties (Donegal, Louth, Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, Leitrim), a Northern-Ireland-based contractor able to meet the Republic's job-specific requirements may be a practical option. This site is written for Republic of Ireland homeowners.

What if I just want to know whether something is asbestos?

The only way to confirm whether a material contains asbestos is laboratory analysis of a sample taken under controlled conditions by a competent surveyor. Visual resemblance (by us, by you, or by anyone else) can flag a material as suspect but cannot confirm content. If you suspect a material, get a survey first. Ask for removal quotes once you have the report. The suspect-materials guide covers what to look for in Irish buildings and when to escalate to a survey.

Will my details be sold or used for marketing?

No. We show you the specialists covering your area and try to email you the same list. You choose who to contact. A copy of your enquiry comes to asbestos.ie for site administration, but we do not sell contact lists, run marketing follow-up or pass your details to contractors.
